Frequently asked questions

Answers to questions about Box16 and CMR neutralization.

General

CMR neutralization is the process of replacing or removing the carrier information on a CMR consignment note. Freight forwarders do this to keep their carrier network confidential from clients and third parties. Box16 automates this process: Box 16 (carrier details) and Box 23 (stamps and signatures) are detected automatically and replaced with your own logo, stamp and company text.

Box16 neutralizes two fields by default: Box 16, which contains the carrier's name and contact details, and Box 23, which holds stamps and signatures from the carrier. Box 16 is replaced with your own company logo and text; Box 23 is overwritten with your rubber stamp. All other fields remain unchanged.

Box16 is built for freight forwarders, logistics service providers and carriers who pass outsourced transport on to their clients. Wherever CMR consignment notes carrying carrier details go to a customer, Box16 keeps your network confidential. From sole traders to teams processing hundreds of documents a day.

Visible carrier details invite your client to contact the carrier directly and cut you out as the intermediary. That undermines your margin and your relationship. By replacing Box 16 and Box 23 with your own identity, you stay in control of your network and your rates.

Yes. Where Adobe Acrobat only places black redaction boxes and works document by document, Box16 recognises the correct fields automatically and fills them with your own branding. Entire batches are processed in seconds, so for neutralizing CMRs, Box16 fully replaces your Adobe workflow.

Technology & detection

Yes. Box16 uses Google Gemini, an advanced AI model, to detect Box 16 and Box 23, including on scanned documents, skewed phone photos, or lower-quality images. The system automatically straightens the document before detection takes place. Documents where automatic detection is not sufficiently confident are placed in a review queue for manual inspection.

Box16 supports PDF, JPG and PNG. Every document goes through AI detection; born-digital PDF files retain their vector quality so the original document stays pixel-perfect. You can upload dozens of files at once as a batch; the result is available as a ZIP download.

Box16 locates Box 16 and Box 23 and gives every document a confidence score. Documents above your configured threshold are processed automatically; borderline cases go to the review queue. You set that threshold yourself, so you keep full control over quality without having to check every document by hand.

Documents where detection stays below your threshold are not processed automatically but placed in a review queue. There you correct the fields in a few clicks with the 4-point editor. This way an incorrectly neutralized CMR never reaches your client.

Yes. Drag dozens of files into the queue at once, including a mix of PDFs, scans and phone photos. Everything is processed in parallel and you download the result per document or as a single ZIP file.

Born-digital PDFs retain their vector quality: only Box 16 and Box 23 are replaced, the rest of the document stays pixel-perfect. For scans and photos, the image is automatically straightened before your branding is added.

Privacy & GDPR

All data is processed exclusively within the European Union. Box16 uses Google Gemini via the EU region and does not retain documents longer than necessary.
